There are organisations like Make-A-Wish, Dreams Come True; and there are TV programmes like Extreme Makeover. All designed to help
make the lives of someone, or some people better. Well, I decided I want to make my life better, so I made this site to ask for your
help.
The Sob Story
Those listed above, and those like it that are run throughout the world, all have a sob story. So here is my sob story.
My name is Zaid. I am 33 years of age and I suffer from Social Phobia and Social Anxiety. Both of which mean that I do not like
being around other people, and make it difficult to leave my home. As such, at times I can appear to be agoraphobic (not liking to
go out). Because of all of this, I also suffer from depression.
I leave my house once a week. This is to do the shopping. Apparently if I want to eat, I have to have food, and food is in the
shops. I could do my shopping over the internet and have it delivered, but in general that is done for bulk foods, and well, not
only do I not like buying in bulk, I simply can't afford it.
Also on my day out, I visit my elderly great aunt. She is 95 years old, I love her to pieces, and well, someone has to visit her
regularly. I do all this on a Thursday, the day that I receive my Sickness Benefit.
In my country, a sickness benefit is similar to what most countries call disability. Since I can't work due to my inability to be
around people, I get an allowance from the government so that I don't starve, and so that I can pay my bills.
The only regular human contact I have is with my mother. Sometimes I have contact with my other friends, but that is not a common
occurance, and not all that regular.
I spend most of my day, or night, alone, and although computers offer many stimulants, sometimes it does get lonely.
Shed a tear for me now.
The Request
To try and combat the days alone, I decided that I should have a dog. The dog I have dreamed of having and have loved since
childhood is a British Bulldog. (view images)
Friends, family, and acquaintences have tried to dissuade me, saying that they have many health problems, they have short lives, they
are this, or they are that.
Any animal or human can have many health problems, that doesn't mean that they are loved any less. A short lifespan does mean that
the grief of loss will come earlier, but it doesn't mean that their life was unfulfilling. Some people can live a lifetime in a
moment, and some people can live a century and have little to show for it. Why should it be any different for a dog?
Is moderately-sized -- built low to the ground but very heavy
-- I wouldn't want to lift it, I am too lazy.
Has a short easy-care coat that comes in many colors
-- Variety is the spice of life, and easy-care sound a lot like me.
Is easygoing and dependable with most of the world
-- Good, that means it will like me.
Doesn't need much exercise and spends much of the day snoring on the sofa
-- As long as it leave room on the couch for me, I have no problems with this.
Seldom barks
-- Dang, I might bark more than the dog then.
Tenacious stubbornness if he decides he really, really doesn't want to do something
-- Good, because I probably wouldn't want to do that thing either.
Serious food possessiveness -- Bulldogs should not be fed around small children or other pets
-- I don't eat off the floor, so the dog can be possessive of his food, and I can be possessive of
my food, and we can leave each others food alone.
Shedding
-- My top is thinning as well, bet when the dog is old, it will still have more than me.
Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, grunting, loud snoring
-- Are we talking about me, or the dog? If the dog can put up with me, then I am sure I can put
up with the dog.
Slobbering and drooling
-- My best friend drools, why shouldn't my future dog?
Gassiness (flatulence)
-- Great, finally I will have someone to have farting contests with, I bet the dog will win, it
eats slimier grosser things than I do.
A multitude of health problems, a short lifespan
-- Well, we all have our issues, it doesn't mean that the dog will be any less loved.
High cost
-- Naturally, that is why I need help.
The Plea For Assistance
So, will my Dream Come True? Did I Make-A-Wish and the tooth faerie decide to grant it? Will I receive my Extreme Makeover and get
a pet to keep me company? That is why I need your help. The cost of getting a dog, the initial vet costs, and naturally, food,
bedding, and other needed accessories doesn't come cheap. Naturally I don't want you to pay for it all, but if a few thousand
people visit and help, then only a couple of dollars each, and my dream will come true.
Thank you for reading, and for considering making the dream of a social reject come true.
